Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

Account: your email address and an encrypted password, handled by our authentication provider.

Profile: display name, date of birth, gender if you provide it, country and city if you provide them, a short bio, profile photo, the languages you speak and are learning with your proficiency, plus your interests and learning goals.

Location: if you choose to share it, your device's precise location. We store it privately and never show it, or your exact position, to any other member — see “What other people can see” below for what is shown instead.

Content: messages you send, voice notes, images shared in chat, corrections and reactions.

Technical: a device push token if you enable notifications, and diagnostic data needed to keep the service running.

2. Why we use it

To create and run your account, suggest compatible language partners, show you nearby partners if you enable location sharing, deliver your messages, send notifications you have enabled, keep the service safe, and meet legal obligations.

3. What other people can see

Your display name, photo, age, languages, interests, goals and bio are visible to other members. Your date of birth is never shown; only your age is derived from it. Your city and country appear only if you turn on location sharing in Privacy settings; your precise location and coordinates are never shown to anyone, under any setting. If you keep location sharing off, other members see your local time instead of a place. Your online status and last-active time appear only if you turn them on. Your email address is never shown to other members.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We use processors to run the service: a hosting and database provider, a push notification provider, a translation provider for messages you choose to translate, and error monitoring. Message text you ask to translate is sent to the translation provider for that purpose only. Processors act on our instructions.

5. Notifications

Push notifications are optional and controlled per category in Settings. You can turn them off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

6. Retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Deletion permanently removes your profile, photo, media and account. Messages you sent to other people are anonymised rather than removed, because they form part of another person's conversation. Reports and moderation records are retained for safety and abuse prevention.

7. Your choices

You can edit or remove profile information at any time, control what is visible in Privacy settings, block or report other members, opt out of analytics in Settings, and delete your account.

8. Children

Peerify is for adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we remove accounts found to belong to minors.

9. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own by the providers named above, with appropriate safeguards.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified in the app before they take effect.
